By Alissa Cinkovich

Hi! I’m Alissa, an expat living in beautiful La Paz and proudly serving the amazing community across all of Baja California Sur. I specialize in helping expats feel confident and protected while living their best lives here in Mexico.

I got into insurance because I truly enjoy helping people, especially other expats who are figuring things out in a new country. It brings me real joy to offer guidance, simplify complicated options, and help people feel taken care of. My work isn’t about selling a product—it’s about giving you peace of mind and being a trusted part of your journey here in Baja.

Private Health Insurance

At Guardian, we provide a variety of private health insurance plans designed with expats in mind. Our plans are customized to keep costs down while still offering the essential coverage you actually need, no confusing extras or bloated premiums. Don’t give up if you’ve been denied coverage there are several plans to choose from to give you hope!

Here’s a breakdown of the coverage options we offer:

International Plans (With or Without U.S. Coverage): Whether you’re traveling frequently or living between countries, we offer international plans that include or exclude U.S. coverage, giving you flexibility based on your needs and your budget.

Exclusive Plans Not Available Elsewhere: Thanks to our specialized partnerships, we’re able to offer unique plans that you won’t find through other agencies—options built specifically for expats living in Mexico.

Affordable Catastrophic Plans: Designed for major medical emergencies, these plans are available up to age 75 and are guaranteed renewable for life once you’re enrolled. They offer long-term protection and peace of mind at a very accessible price.

Couples or Family Plans: Our family health plans provide comprehensive coverage for the entire household, including children, at an affordable rate, making it easier for expat families to stay protected while living abroad.

Maternity Coverage: We offer maternity plans with waiting periods, so early enrollment is important. If you’re expecting or planning, we’ll help you determine if the timing works based on your due date and eligibility.

Mexico-Only Plans: These plans are a great option for full-time residents who don’t need international or U.S. coverage. Best of all, our Mexico-only plans do not use “tubulars,” which are often found in other local plans and can make your coverage harder to understand. With Guardian, your coverage is clear, simple, and straightforward.

Emergency Medical Evacuation: If you have U.S. Medicare or Canadian health insurance and want the option to return home for treatment during a serious medical emergency, SkyMed is a great solution. It provides emergency flights back to your home country where your care is already insured. For more details and pricing, contact local SkyMed representative Karryn Arato. Just note: you’ll still be responsible for local hospital costs to be cleared for travel. As long as you’re prepared for that, SkyMed can offer peace of mind when you need it most.

Travel Insurance”Guardian and our trusted insurance providers have customized travel insurance plans designed with real travelers in mind. We’ve removed many of the extras that most people don’t need, the stuff that usually drives up the cost, and kept the essentials. This makes our travel plans more affordable and more practical, with the option to add specific riders if you want extra coverage. Whether you’re traveling within Mexico or heading abroad, I can help you choose a plan that fits your actual needs, not just a one-size-fits-all package.

Auto, Home, Boat & Trailer Insurance

Auto Insurance: Whether you’re driving full-time in Baja or just visiting, having the right auto insurance is essential. I help you get proper coverage that’s valid and recognized in Mexico—not all policies are created equal. Important Tip: If you’re in an accident, do not move your vehicle until the federales or your insurance adjuster arrives. This is standard protocol in Mexico, and moving your car too soon can create legal complications. Also, if the other party doesn’t have insurance, do not accept cash at the scene. It may seem helpful in the moment, but it can lead to major problems later. Everything should be properly documented to protect you.

Homeowners Insurance: Many people are confused about how hurricane insurance works in Baja. A common myth is that “insurance doesn’t cover hurricanes” but this isn’t true. Your home can be covered for hurricanes. The key is timing: if a hurricane is already named and forming when you apply, that specific storm won’t be covered. Once it passes, you’ll be protected for any future storms. I’ll walk you through exactly how it works so you’re never left guessing.

Condo Insurance: When purchasing a condo in Mexico, it’s important to check whether the building has an HOA master policy that covers structural damage from hurricanes, earthquakes, and other risks. Not all condominium projects offer this. Always request a copy of the HOA’s policy to know what’s covered and what additional protection you’ll need. I’ll help you fill in the gaps to make sure your investment is secure.

Boat Insurance: Boating in Mexico is wonderful, but it does carry real risks. Many people on the water are uninsured, and hurricanes are always a threat. If you have your boat Moorages, insurance is not optional, it’s a requirement. I’ll help you make sure your vessel is properly protected. Also, keep in mind that boats require a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). I’ll guide you through all the paperwork so everything’s in place.

Trailer & RV Insurance: If you have a trailer or RV in Baja, especially one you plan to store, you’ll need proper insurance and a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). Many residents don’t realize this, and some have faced legal issues or high fees when storage facilities refused to release their RVs due to missing permits. I’ll help make sure you’re fully protected and everything’s handled the right way.

Life Insurance

Life insurance gives your loved ones financial protection if something happens to you. Whether you need coverage for your family, to meet mortgage or loan requirements, or just for peace of mind, I can help you find a policy that fits, whether you’re living in Mexico full-time or traveling internationally.

Let’s connect, and let’s make sure you’re protected, prepared, and free to enjoy all that this beautiful life in Mexico has to offer.
