New restaurants in this La Paz area community bring exciting flavors and choices to residents.
At one time, those living in the “Three Cs” (Chametla, Comitán and Centenario) had to drive into La Paz if they wanted to find variety in restaurant choices. However, that is no longer the case. Over the past few years, things have begun to change, and in the past few months, the food scene has gone through a real C change, so to speak. Now, choices abound and there is quite a bit of variety in the types of food on offer. In addition to La Chata, El Maviri II, Los Claros Fish Centenario, La Esquina Cafe and Deli, La Toscana Break and Coffee, KM 14, Tiki Todds Sports Bar, and Merkén Parilla Chilena that have all opened in the past few years, we would like to share five new offerings that we think you should know about.
FUMO Italian Grill

If you are craving awesome Italian food, look no further than the new FUMO Italian Grill in El Centenario. Anyone who loved the food at La Trattoria de Alessandro and was crushed when it closed last summer, GOOD NEWS! La Trattoria’s chef, Alessandro Mancuso, has a new offering called FUMO Italian Grill. Located just outside of the La Esquina Deli, it is easy to find and handy both for those from the Three Cs and La Paz. With lovely ambiance, a wood-fired pizza oven, and excellent, house-made pastas and sauces, FUMO Italian Grill is sure to please your palate. Personal favorites include the pizza, the potato gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce, and their delicious lasagna. Be sure to save room for dessert! Their chocolate cake is both decadent and gi-normous! You will want to share it with someone.

Bandidos 1 OFF
https://www.facebook.com/bandidosgril/?locale=es_LA
Longtime burger favorite, Bandidos, from La Paz closed shop last spring and has now reinvented itself in the El Comitán community. Located on Calle 4, the newly opened restaurant, Bandidos 1 Off, offers the same kind of 60s vibe music and relaxed ambiance, with delicious burgers and fries. It can be a bit challenging to find, as there is no sign yet, but look for the brick pillar with the outline of the Baja Peninsula on it.
La Quinta Pizzaría/Fifth Pizza
Serving bubbly crust, Napolitano-style, artisanal, wood-fired pizzas, La Quinta/Fifth Pizza, is a must try for pizza lovers. Located right on the highway in El Centenario, next to La Chata and the water company. With both delivery and pick-up options available, be sure to try out this new offering in El Centenario. Oh, and be sure to try out their amazing sourdough bread as well!
Arrivo Cocina Salvaje
If you are looking for something a little bit different, be sure to check out ARRIVO – Cocina Salvaje. Arrivo is the newest restaurant offering from the owners of The Oyster Bar on Allende in La Paz. At Arrivo, Chef Christian Herrer is creating a very different dining experience, where dishes are inspired fusions of ingredients, spices and cooking styles from different regions of Mexico, all of which are cooked over wood fires and incorporate a certain degree of smokiness. Located in what was formerly Casa del Bagre, Arrivo is a food experience you won’t want to miss. Check out my feature article on Arrivo, here.
Por Supuesto Express

Finally, Por Supuesto Express is a new, Asian-fusion offering in El Comitán. It is the newest iteration of a restaurant that operated for a time on Calle Topete in La Paz, but over the summer, they migrated to the Comitán area. While the services are located on Calle 5, it isn’t actually a full-service restaurant. Rather, the chef, Joseph Schmidt, offers mostly takeout meals cooked in the huge, palapa-style kitchen of his home. All take-out containers are eco-friendly and ordering ahead is strongly encouraged to ensure you aren’t disappointed. As a courtesy, he does have a few tables in his yard where people can eat-in if they choose, and there is space available.
If you are looking for Asian inspired food, we encourage you to check out their weekly menu and order through their What’sApp interface on +52-612-234-4146.
