Our Favorite La Paz Restaurants

Wondering which La Paz restaurants to try on your next visit here? We’ve put together our La Paz Restaurant Guide to give you some ideas.

Doce Cuarenta is just one of the many excellent coffee shops around town.

Whether you love great coffee, are an experienced taco aficionado, or you are looking for somewhere a little more upscale for a special night out, La Paz has a restaurant (or two, or more!) to fit the bill. One of the things we love about living in La Paz is its thriving restaurant scene, and it seems a new place pops up every other week! That’s why we’ve put together a list of our favorites in our La Paz Restaurants Guide.

Get the La Paz Restaurant guide here.

New in this Edition: We’ve updated our guide with several new additions to the restaurant scene, and we’ve added a special section on El Centenario restaurants. El Centenario is a growing community located 20 minutes from downtown La Paz, and home to an eclectic mix of  expats, local La Paz natives, and folks who’ve moved here from other cities on the Mexico mainland. People are drawn to El Centenario by the quieter lifestyle, spacious lot sizes and friendly, first-name-basis where everyone seems to know their neighbors. As the community has grown, new restaurants have been popping up, so we thought it deserved its own section in our guide.

Breakfast and Coffee Shops

Are you an early morning riser looking for some great coffee and free WiFi? Head to Doce Cuarenta on Madero, the hip local coffee spot with a cool, laid back vibe. Shop for souvenirs and pick up a La Paz tourist map while you’re there, and get some of the amazing organic fresh coffee beans to go. Feeling a little hungry? Head to Maria California, which boasts a huge menu and a charming outdoor patio, and be sure to try one of their many fresh squeezed juice combinations.

Tacos!

For a quick but satisfying lunch, it’s hard to beat tacos as the perfect food. With its perch on the Sea of Cortez, La Paz offers a wide variety of fish and shimp tacos, as well as a wide array of other seafood selections. Claro’s Fish Jr., just one block off the malecon, offers a wide variety of seafood tacos, tostadas, plates and more, with a huge topping bar to make it a meal. Or head to McFisher, a local fish taco favorite just a few blocks off the malecon. For arrachera tacos, you can’t beat Rancho El Viejo, either the small location on the malecon, or at the larger location in town.

Head to Claro Fish Jr. for a tasty selection of fish and shrimp tacos, topped off with a large condiment bar.

Burgers and More

When it’s time for happy hour, head to Harker – yep, the same place that rents stand up paddleboards has a restaurant upstairs with a casual vibe, TVs for sports watching, Baja Brewing on tap and a great sunset view of the malecon. A perfect place to meet up with friends, Harker also cooks up delicious burgers and sliders, pizzas, salads, and highly addictive fresh cut french fries that will have you coming back again and again.

Harker’s location on the malecon make it the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail.

Pizza and Italian

There are a surprising number of Italian restaurants and places to get a good pizza in La Paz. Locals rave about Tiramisu, Il Rustico is another popular favorite, and one Italian friend swears by the pizza at Fuego y Lena. For something a little more upscale, try Paciana or, for Italian with a seafood twist, Oliva Al Mare.

La Paz has a number of Italian and pizza places, including the pizza artesenales at Fuego y Lena.

Fine Dining

For more upscale fare, La Paz also has a fantastic fine dining scene. In the mood for a romantic evening with an amazing view of the bay? Try Seaside Wine Bar and Grill, offering excellent seafood and steak entrees, wines, cocktails and endless views of the Bay of La Paz. Craving more seafood? Marinera Poke & Seafood has fresh Hawaiin style poke bowls and hand crafted cocktails in a casual modern setting. Have guests in town and looking for somewhere to go for dinner that’s sure to impress? You can’t go wrong with local favorites Nim or Sorstis, two of La Paz’s top choices offering outstanding food and service, paired with impressive Mexican wines.

Seaside Wine Bar and Grill is an outdoor fine dining restaurant with amazing views and excellent food, cocktails and wine.

Of course, our guide is just a start, and doesn’t begin to cover all the great places offering delicious food in and around La Paz. Have a restaurant you recommend we add to our list? Leave us a comment, we love to try new places!
